In a recent study conducted by Auto Insurance EZ, Massachusetts was found to be the second-best state to own an electric car. Massachusetts offers a comprehensive array of both incentives and benefits to the electric vehicle industry.

Massachusetts offers 13 state incentives as well as 6 utility and private EV incentives offered. There also is a federal tax credit on EVs of up to $7,500. The most popular current incentive program is the MOR-EV Rebate Program.

The MOR-EV Program was expired on September 30th, 2019, but was reopened on January 1, 2020. The MOR-EV Program offers a $2,500 rebate to qualifying battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and fuel cell electric vehicles. (FCEVs) with a $50,000 final purchase price. The program also offers a $1,500 rebate on plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVS) with a range of 25 miles or greater with a final purchase price of up to $50,000. Rebates aren’t available for purchases made before January 1, 2020.

I’ve attached some links below if you would like to explore the incentives in Massachusetts some more.

Boston has plans set in place to be a net-zero, neutral carbon emission city by 2050. In 2018, EV adoption in Boston and neighboring municipalities represented 2.8% of new vehicle registrations whereas new vehicle registrations statewide represented 2.5%. In mid-2019, there were estimated to be more than 2,000 EV's registered in the city. There is a lot of ground that needs to be covered between now and 2050 to ensure neutral carbon emissions. So, the city of Boston has laid out three main goals they hope to achieve moving forward. Check out the photo below.

Massachusetts is setting a great example for the future with EV's. It's not going to be an easy feat, but it will be worth it.
