EFI's 2017 eCommerce Marketplace Impacts

EFI's 2017 eCommerce Marketplace Impacts Energy Federation Incorporation EFI | Energy Federation Incorporation

During the calendar year 2017, EFI received eCommerce orders for 2.4 million energy-saving products. If all products ordered are installed, 138 million fewer kilowatt hours of electricity will be consumed annually, which is equivalent to the annual energy consumption of over 12,000 homes in the United States. The impact that EFI's eCommerce initiatives had in 2017 represented a 52% increase over 2016 when the products ordered represented an annual energy savings of 91 million kWh of electricity.

Lowering people's energy use also lowers people's energy bills.

The potential reduction in energy consumption would save consumers $14.6 million annually. In 2017 the median household income was $59,039, which means the savings resulting from EFI's eCommerce efforts is equivalent to the annual household income of 247 families. The reduction in consumption also means that 62,760 metric tons. Of carbon dioxide associated with electricity generation would not be produced. Carbon Dioxide is one of the most significant contributors to global warming because of its atmospheric persistence. For a unit of CO2 emitted into the atmosphere today, 40% will remain in the atmosphere a century later, and 20% will still be present 1,000 years from now. The accumulative nature of CO2, coupled with its heat-trapping properties, exacerbates its contribution to global warming. The reductions we can achieve through the programs we are running now will have positive benefits for generations.

In 2017 there were twenty-nine energy-saving product categories tracked by EFI. At an aggregated level the table below shows the contribution that these broad categories have made.
