EnergyFederation.org residential e-newsletter
October 2007 | | | Quick Links | We believe it is essential to encourage environmentally benign and sustainable use of our planet's limited energy and water resources. Through the distribution of resource conserving products and the provision of objective, accurate information, we strive to assist people in their efforts to use energy and water efficiently. | | | | Dear Philip Scarbro) | The issues of high energy prices and climate change are more pressing than ever (global emissions of carbon dioxide have risen by an astounding 37% since 1987). As a subscriber to our e-newsletter, you are probably well aware of the importance of increased resource conservation. You probably have compact fluorescent light bulbs, you probably have a water-saving showerhead, and you probably have taken some steps to tighten up your house. Nevertheless, evident by the unprecedented number of prospective clients looking to EFI to facilitate their own efforts to promote conservation, we know that reducing energy use is not easy for many people. Since our last e-newsletter over 150 new products have been added to our online store, and over 50 utility companies and environmental organizations now direct their customers to EFI for residential conservation technologies. In this upcoming year we will be producing a print catalog of residential energy efficiency products, distributing new product announcements via rss feeds, and giving each customer the opportunity to track reductions in his/her carbon footprint - not to mention adding new content regularly. I encourage you to visit EnergyFederation.org. There is almost always something new. Philip Scarbro Director, EFI's Consumer Division

| Do you suspect that if you could tell how much electricity your house is using "real time" (and how much money it represents) you would use less electricity? A study of a pilot program in Canada suggests this is true, and this monitor from Blueline will allow you to do just this. The monitor includes a wireless sensor that attaches to the meter, and remote display unit for inside your house. LED lights strings represent a new generation of holiday lights, using 90 percent less electricity than an incandescent light string. With each C6 LED using only 6/10ths of a watt, a typical 70 bulb string will consume under 5 watts of electricity. LED holiday lights are available in most common bulb sizes, they may be used indoors or out, and because the LEDs never got hot, they are safer than older-style incandescent light strings. | All compact fluorescents use less electricity than equivalent incandescent light bulbs. All compact fluorescents last longer than incandescents. All compact fluorescents can help you reduce your electric bill as well as emissions associated with electricity generation. All compact fluorescents contain a small amount of mercury (so should be disposed of properly once expired) - but all compact fluorescents are not the same. This new T2 compact fluorescent from Litetronics is smaller than most other compact fluorescents, delivers more lumens per watt, and contains less mercury.
